Introduction to breathwork

Withsara breathwork classes

The breathing classes are here to offer an additional complement to your health routine. Improving your recovery and oxygen uptake ability are just two of many factors that make breathwork a  valuable addition to your other workouts. In addition, becoming more aware of your breathing on a  daily basis can reduce stress, create presence, and has many other health benefits.

Each class has a different purpose and focus. The length of the classes varies from short exercises of 5-10 minutes to longer sessions of 30 minutes. Feel free to start with the introduction class and continue your exploration from there.

Why breathwork?

If I were to ask you where you get the majority of your energy from, what would your answer be?  From what you eat or drink? From your sleep? It is easy to forget that it is actually through our breathing and the oxygen we inhale that we get our greatest share of energy. If we have breathing that does not work optimally, we thus lose large amounts of power and energy potential.  Improving one's oxygen uptake capacity and thereby increasing one's energy level is just one of the many effects that can be gained through so-called breathwork. A collective name for different methods that involve using one's breathing to achieve different effects and health benefits.

Humans have been using breathing exercises for millennia and are nothing new in itself. However,  this knowledge has been forgotten in many parts of the world and today there are many who wish to bring these treasures back into society. To give all humans easy access to breathwork and the power of their breath. An example of such an initiative is the Hale center in Stockholm. A center for breathwork that helps people to breathe, connect and grow. Annie Klingsdal, a certified breath guide from Hale, is welcoming you to join her classes on Withsara to give you a taste of how breathwork can be of value in your life.

Good things to know before you start breathwork

We all have different conditions when it comes to our breathing ability. It differs from person to person as well as from moment to moment. We can never really assume that we will get an exact feeling or experience every time we practice breathwork. Therefore, it is valuable to be humble towards oneself and not demand too much or have specific expectations. Especially not if it's a  completely new practice for you. It is important to respect the body and not demand too much of oneself. At the same time, it is called breathwork for a reason, it is a form of exercise, so awareness, focus, and effort are important keywords. When we use our breathing consciously to help the body find its balance and release tension, it can be experienced in different ways. Both physically, mentally, and emotionally. For some, the effects are clear and direct. For others, the experience is more subtle and some hardly perceive anything at all. One is not necessarily better or worse than the other, and going in with a welcoming and relaxed approach is highly recommended.

Let breathwork become a part of your daily life

Becoming more aware of breathing can be a game-changer for many people, and just like in all training, repetition and continuity are the keys to change. Therefore, it is often valuable to find a health routine that includes breathwork on a regular basis. As well as to accept the challenge of creating a well-functioning and healthy breathing mechanism for your everyday life.
