Best ways to improve your breath

We all begin our lives with inhalation and we leave it with an exhalation. How we breathe in between can affect our quality of life more than you might think. We all take between approximately 20,000 to 30,000 breaths in a day and the majority of these are done unconsciously. Becoming aware of and being able to optimize the quality of some of these can play a big role in your overall health.

Use your nose more

Breathing with the nose instead of the mouth has many health benefits and can also help save some of your body's energy. If you breathe in through your nose, the air arrives in your lungs already warmed and moistened. When you exhale through your nose, you prevent unnecessary fluid and heat from leaving the body. A large proportion of the bacteria, viruses and toxins that you inhale are caught in the nose instead of being drawn down into the lungs, which reduces the risk of infection and makes it easier to stay healthy.

Breathe slow

Breathing too quickly can stress the body and have a negative effect on the body's health balance. Something that can lead to increased fatigue and other problems. An optimal breathing rate is approximately 6-12 breaths per minute. How many breaths do you take?

Use the diaphragm

To optimize your energy level, it is important to use the diaphragm, your main breathing muscle. It ensures that the air you inhale reaches the lower part of your lungs, where you have the best oxygen absorption capacity. The movement of the diaphragm is the most energy-efficient way to get the air in and out of your lungs, and it also helps other organs to function optimally by giving them massage.

Do breathing exercises

Just as with other muscle groups, there is great value in exercising your breathing muscles. Oxygen is our most important source of energy and in order to optimize the intake and absorption of this resource, you need to be able to use the volume of your lungs optimally and create a stable and qualitative breathing ability. Here at Withsara you can start to explore Breathwork classes, with several different breathing exercises, which can help you train your breathing muscles.

Use your breath to become more present

Becoming aware of your breathing is a good way to know that you are awake in the present moment. When you shift your attention to your solar plexus and you can feel your breath, you automatically become present.
